Nia Nickel, renowned as the founder of the creative salon, The Den of Beauty, in Kyiv, has expanded her entrepreneurial reach into the Polish market, earning accolades from a growing fan base. Beyond her ventures in the beauty industry, Nia is the founder of the Epiprosvita NGO and serves as an expert at the Ministry of Health, specializing in mental illness and autism. Her foray into healthcare was spurred by a personal connection—her daughter's battle with epilepsy.
Reflecting on her transition from entrepreneur to medical expert, Nia emphasizes the necessity for a businesslike approach to address unmet needs in the healthcare sector. "Five years ago, during the medical reform era, I had to retrain due to my daughter's epilepsy. The lack of information for doctors, the introduction of 'medical protocols,' and market instability prompted me to take action," says Nia, highlighting the challenging environment shaped by factors like COVID, war, and an unfavorable climate.
Every February 12, on World Epilepsy Awareness Day, over 130 countries come together to shed light on one of the most prevalent global diseases. Epiprosvita, under Nia's initiative, organizes educational events in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Lviv at hospitals treating epilepsy, aiming to dispel myths surrounding the condition that often lead to misguided actions during seizures.

Key facts about epilepsy are presented to raise awareness:
One in 26 people worldwide has epilepsy, with 80% residing in developing countries. Quality medicines can enable 70% to lead an economically active life, translating to over a million people with epilepsy in Ukraine.
Epilepsy does not equate to disability; individuals like Elton John, Theodore Roosevelt, and Prince have or had epilepsy.
Epilepsy is not contagious and is often manageable.

Nia Nickel envisions business opportunities in the current landscape, identifying areas with unfilled demand:
Employment: Tapping into the potential of parents of children with disabilities and individuals with epilepsy, who, with timely treatment, could become valuable employees.
Technological solutions: Introducing monitoring systems and "smart watches" for epileptic activity could address critical gaps in the market.
Education and care cluster: Creating institutions for children with epilepsy could enable working parents to contribute to the workforce.
While these steps require time, early adopters stand to gain the best specialists and market positioning.
Nia advocates immediate actions, leveraging Ukraine's Medical Guarantee Program:
Conduct training sessions for employees on their rights to free healthcare.
Allocate in-house legal support for personal issues related to healthcare rights.
Provide training on first aid for epileptic seizures.
 
Epilepsy doesn't discriminate and can onset at any time, making it crucial for individuals to be informed. In a gesture to foster awareness, Epiprosvita invites participation in educational events on February 12 from 13.00 to 15.00 in the following locations: 
- Lviv, St. Nicholas Hospital, program and pre-registration required.
- Kharkiv, Children's Hospital #5, program and pre-registration.
