MIM Business School President Iryna Tykhomyrova and Vice President Oleksiy Vynogradov recently met with the Serhiy Prytula Foundation, one of Ukraine's most esteemed charity institutions, to discuss joint plans and potential collaboration formats.
MIM Business School has a long-standing history of successful cooperation with the Foundation. Sixteen Foundation employees have already completed various programs at MIM Business School, and several new individuals are currently enrolled in the 2024 MBA and Pre-MBA programs. Notably, Andriy Shuvalov, the Foundation's Director, and Oleksiy Serdyukov, Project Manager of the Civilian Preparedness Centers, are both MIM alumni. Serhiy Prytula expressed how the knowledge and skills acquired by his team members from MIM have tangibly benefited the Foundation, with graduates integrating their newfound expertise into daily operations, thereby enhancing efficiency.
Iryna Tykhomyrova stressed that MIM remains committed to fostering cooperation and stands ready to provide educational support to organizations dedicated to combating the enemy and advancing towards victory.
Sergiy Prytula shared insights into the Foundation's educational projects, highlighting the emergence of popular fundraisers in the "online war" effort. He noted a preference among donors to contribute to tangible outcomes, such as FPV drones, rather than investing in training operators for such devices. However, Prytula emphasized the critical importance of skilled military personnel controlling these devices for effective operation.
Additionally, the Foundation is actively expanding its Civilian Preparedness Centers. While assessing the impact of such initiatives can be challenging, Prytula recounted a compelling anecdote where a trained individual saved a victim's life during a shelling incident using knowledge gained and a tourniquet provided during training. "Even for the sake of one such case, it is worth educating people," he remarked.

As a sign of appreciation, Serhiy Prytula presented Iryna Tykhomyrova with a commemorative coin bearing the Foundation's slogan, "Invincible when united."
Together, they reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening each other and achieving the shared goal of defeating the enemy and securing victory for Ukraine.

Invincible When United: MIM Business School and the Serhiy Prytula Foundation

Reintegration Management Program

On April 12, the Reintegration Management Program (RMP) commenced at MIM Business School, with 105 selected participants. The majority hail from the temporarily occupied territories. Given their high application numbers, the program gave them priority, along with veterans and current Armed Forces members.
The program boasts a diverse cohort, comprising individuals of various ages, experiences, and professional goals, all united by a shared belief in the inevitable liberation of Ukrainian territories and the subsequent demand for skilled managers. They anticipate fulfilling this need through the program.
Oleksandr Kornienko, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, who will be teaching civil service, European integration principles, and aligning Ukraine's legal and regulatory frameworks with those of the EU on the program warmly welcomed the RMP students.

"The enemy would prefer us to focus solely on war efforts rather than planning our future. However, our communities across Ukraine remain steadfast in securing our Ukrainian future. Our actions are rooted in the principle of reclaiming what is rightfully ours. Programs like these are crucial, especially due to their longevity and comprehensiveness. I extend my gratitude to our partners from USAID for their support and commend MIM for implementing the program," remarked Mr. Kornienko.
Tamila Tasheva, Permanent Representative of the President in the AR of Crimea, noted in her address that the President of Ukraine tasked the Mission with forming a management team for Crimea, which has since expanded to include Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
"I congratulate you on participating in this inaugural program—it holds immense importance. I hope that during your studies, you'll spread the word about the program, facilitating its broader reach upon your graduation. We require many individuals to work in the de-occupied territories. Initially, we may not hire individuals from the occupied territories for managerial positions in the public sector. Therefore, I urge you to promote the program so that others may apply in the future. Additionally, I encourage you to consider applying to our Talent Pool pilot project under the National Civil Service Agency if you haven't already," invited Ms. Tasheva, highlighting the immediate need for personnel in state institutions.
The six-month program is conducted online to ensure accessibility for all students, though the kickoff session was held face-to-face on campus. According to Iryna Tykhomyrova, President of MIM Business School, forming a cohesive management community from the outset is crucial.
"As we prepare to restore the de-occupied territories, teamwork will be paramount. Therefore, fostering camaraderie is as essential as acquiring knowledge and skills. Our overarching goal is to cultivate a community that will collaborate in the de-occupied territories and generate implementable projects. While the next six months may pose challenges as you juggle work, volunteering, and school, I assure you it will be a time of excitement and productivity," affirmed Tykhomyrova.
The Reintegration Management Program is made possible through the support of the USAID Ukraine Confidence Building Initiative (UCBI). It is developed and implemented by the Mission of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and MIM Business School, with support from the Office of the President of Ukraine.

Empowering Ukraine's Future: The Reintegration Management Program

What exactly is an MBA, and who should consider attending business school? What differentiates MBA programs in Ukraine from those in the West? How do case studies function in business schools, and why do Ukrainians persist with their studies amidst the challenges of a full-scale war?
These questions and more were addressed by Oleksandr Sudarkin, Director of MBA and Pre-MBA Leadership programs, and a seasoned coach and business trainer, on the podcast "Where the World is Going" by SPEKA media.
"The entire Ukrainian business community is currently in the same boat. Today, the focus isn't on competition but on coopetition—competing while supporting one another. It’s crucial to recognize that we can only survive if we strive to improve our work every day, better today than yesterday, and better tomorrow than today. As my mentor, an honorary professor at Harvard, would say, 'a person does not learn from their mistakes; a person learns by thinking and reflecting on those mistakes,'" explained Oleksandr Sudarkin.

MIM’s Professor Discusses Ukrainian Business Education in Wartime

Taras Moroz, a MIM alumnus, opened the Farmer's Milk shop in a former Starbucks location in Hollywood, Miami, late last year. We caught up with him on MIM-TV to discuss the American palate, whether Ukrainian expats frequent his store for traditional cheesecakes and cakes, and the intricacies of starting a business in the U.S. Here's a summary of the main points from our conversation:

Talks began three years ago but were delayed due to extenuating circumstances. After considering markets in Europe, including England and Poland, the decision was made to launch in America, a country to which we had previously exported dairy products. Our partners assisted in handling and clearing the first shipment, thus introducing Ukrainian ice cream, butter, and cakes in the U.S. The shipment routed through Romania and Barcelona, and it took three months by sea to arrive, including delays due to blockages.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; line-height: normal; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;">Finding a suitable location for a coffee shop in Florida is challenging due to stringent standards for premises setup. Equipping a location from scratch requires an investment of about $100,000 and considerable time for design and utilities installation. Alternatively, acquiring a location from another business costs between $100,000 and $250,000. Taras was fortunate; he secured the Starbucks space vacated during the Covid-19 pandemic for Farmer's Milk.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; line-height: normal; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;">Payroll is a significant expense in the U.S., costing five times more than the rent.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; line-height: normal; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;">Our customers vary, but they often leave positive reviews on Google Maps. Initially, they were puzzled by traditional Ukrainian ice cream until we added proper labels to the freezers. Honey cake and Napoleon are favorites, and the cheesecakes come highly recommended. Ukrainians have been visiting since day one, and now we're attracting Americans from other cities.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;">The first shipment included 200 items, but that turned out to be excessive, especially as some products spoiled or altered in texture. We're now considering narrowing our product list to 30 items and reducing the ice cream selection. Products like rye bread and nuts with condensed milk, familiar to Ukrainians, are considered delicacies by Americans.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; line-height: normal; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;">There are U.S. restrictions on importing certain dairy products like yogurt and sour cream. However, other products that meet certification standards are allowed. We maintain the same recipe, technology, and quality as in Ukraine, ensuring that the Farmer's Milk products align with American standards.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; line-height: normal; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;">We produce yogurt from local milk, which tastes slightly different. By adapting the technology and incorporating fresh berries, we've managed to enhance the flavor beyond similar Ukrainian product.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; line-height: normal; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;">We purchased equipment from local manufacturers since adapting European technology for American installation standards would have been more costly. Although it was challenging to find equipment that matched Ukrainian standards, our partners managed to find suitable alternatives.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; line-height: normal; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list 36.0pt;">Key production roles are filled by pastry chefs who relocated from Ukraine. Our team of 16 people comprises mostly Ukrainians. Currently, Farmer's Milk is developing a franchising model in response to incoming inquiries. The franchise plan includes training teams, launching operations, adhering to standards, and supplying products directly from Ukraine.</li>

From Ukraine to the USA: The Journey of MIM’s Alum Farmer's Milk Coffee Shop in Hollywood, Miami

In early 2024, Matt Simmons, Learning Manager at IMD Business School in Switzerland, with over 15 years of experience in implementing digital strategies and innovations, visited Kyiv at the invitation of MIM Business School. He conducted a two-day workshop on Digital Business Transformation, marking its debut in Ukraine.
Simmons emphasized that simply implementing digital technology is insufficient to yield positive results in business today. While digitalization holds immense potential for development, the primary challenge lies in effectively putting it into practice and recognizing the opportunities it presents.
"The Digital Business Transformation course aids organizations in understanding why transformation is necessary, what to transform, and how to do so rapidly and efficiently. Through this process, participants learn to use tools and techniques to execute swiftly and become more agile. The course also assists participants in selecting the right strategy and the right time to achieve success. The workshop participants great motivation and interest, likely influenced by the current conditions. They readily engaged in group activities and lively discussions, leading to valuable insights," explained Matthew Simmons.
Under Simmons' guidance, workshop participants not only familiarized themselves with the IMD Digital Orchestra Framework, a tool tailored for digital business transformation, but also devised work plans for implementing digital strategies in their respective domains. 
Oleh Shaporenko, a participant of the workshop and a 2023 MBA graduate of MIM Business School stated, "This workshop has brought me much closer to the necessary and appropriate business changes that can provide a compelling advantage in the market. It is impossible to imagine a better time for digital transformation than today! I am truly grateful to Mr. Simmons for such structured and relevant materials and perfect explanation."

MIM Hosted a Workshop on Digital Business Transformation by IMD’s Matthew Simmons

In the pursuit of institutional growth, sustainable funding, effective idea promotion, and fostering common ground between the public sector and business, second-year MBA students embarked on a three-month journey alongside four nonprofit organizations. This collaborative effort was part of the MBA4NGO project, now in its third year, conducted in partnership with <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/philanthropy-in-ua/"> Philanthropy in Ukraine</a>.
MIM Business School has established a impressive tradition of providing consultancy services to the public sector. The three-month collaboration proved mutually enriching for both sides. Nonprofit organizations received comprehensive plans replete with recommendations, insights, and valuable contacts of potential partners. Equally, the ideas championed by these nonprofits found new advocates among MIM students dedicated to their respective projects.

Conversely, NGOs played a pivotal role in reshaping perspectives within business entities. For instance, following a visit to Nova Poshta's terminal, the Girls NGO proposed growth strategies aimed at enhancing female engagement within the company.
Impressively, NGOs wasted no time in implementing the recommendations put forth by MBA students, even before the project's culmination. Notably, 280 Days, an organization assisting pregnant women, strategically streamlined its operations, reallocating resources for broader developmental pursuits.
To deepen MIM students' understanding of working with the elderly, the Zhyttelyub Charitable Foundation invited the subgroup to join as volunteers in their Lunch Without Trouble initiative.
A significant engagement occurred at the Voices of Children Charitable Foundation's office, where MIM students keenly identified barriers hindering the foundation's operations. Leveraging MBA-acquired tools, they proposed solutions, emphasizing areas such as project management enhancement, fostering stronger ties with educational institutions, and elevating service quality for target audiences.

Navigating the Urban Battlefield: The Resilience of Women Amid Wartime Challenges

Anders Indset, the founder of the "quantum economy" concept, visited Kyiv at the invitation of MIM Business School and spoke at the Facing the Future forum. He had previously met with the Ukrainian audience virtually as part of the ReinforceUa project, so he gladly accepted the offer to visit the capital of Ukraine and speak at an educational forum dedicated to the future. We are publishing the highlights of his speech.
 In the sacred space of silence at the Facing the Future forum in Kyiv, I found myself contemplating the heartbeat of the world's ethos. Humanity stands at the crossroads of an existential crisis, grappling with artificial intelligence, poverty, and the looming specter of climate change. Yet, beneath the surface complexities lies a fundamental question: shall our world descend into dystopia and destruction, or shall it ascend into a realm of life and a flourishing future? The resonance of Ukraine's choice echoes the latter.
 Venturing into the heart of Kyiv for the first time, I am struck by the profound narrative woven into this city's fabric. The essence of our collective challenge is encapsulated in the imperative to rebuild, restore, and circumvent the scars of war. The power to shape the future rests in the hands of those who tread upon this soil. In this context, the economy is not a mere abstraction; it is an operating system.
Consider healthcare—a sphere poised for transformation. The path forward demands decentralization, a localization mirrored in the trajectory of digitalization. The blueprint is simple: leverage technology, build upon it. In a world where the value of education has seemingly dwindled to zero, a pressing need emerges for more than just educators; we require better educators. Our metamorphosis pivots from the pursuit of absolute knowledge to fostering a society driven by understanding—an understanding that progress is our only true path forward.
 The contours of the emerging economy must be imbued with social and environmental dimensions. In this new epoch, conversations about business models should transcend profit-centric paradigms. Ukraine's ambitious goal of sourcing 80% of its energy from renewables by 2050 heralds a shift where sustainability gives way to efficiency over the next decade.
Ecology, as a social dimension, intertwines with the fabric of the economy, ushering in a new paradigm—a fresh art of doing business. This is the quantum economy, a synthesis where the social market thrives on efficiency rather than mere financial gain. It is a delicate dance between the local and the global.
While skepticism shadows the notion of capitalism, a call for humane capitalism reverberates. Even the Dalai Lama acknowledges capitalism as a functional model, contingent upon compassion and empathy. Can this ethos resonate in Ukraine? Can the nation carve out a leadership role, crafting a declaration of interdependence that transcends the individual for the sake of the collective—a communal economy?
Kyiv, the heartbeat of the world, beckons us to initiate change. It is a story waiting to be told, etched into the minds of all who encounter it. The belief in a future where the inherent inequality among people is dissolved becomes the cornerstone of constructing a society that genuinely cares for its many fragments.
Ukraine's destiny lies not just as a member of the EU but as a torchbearer illuminating the path forward. Trust in oneself becomes the linchpin. Trust, when extended beyond personal boundaries, enables the collective construction of something remarkable.
 History need not be a cyclical repetition; it is not a mere recollection of the past but a guide on how to think. We are evolving into seekers of real truths, advocates for progress. As I disembarked the train in Kyiv, the laughter of a little girl echoed through the air, a symbol of boundless hope hurtling into the future. Her innocent joy invoked reflections on her father, a guardian fighting for a shared destiny—for my future, my daughter's, and my grandchildren's.
